About Me
I'm Carmel Mayer and I teach VET subjects (Vocational Education and Training) to Years 10, 11 and 12 students. I also teach Year 11 Social and Community studies. I am based at Cairns School of Distance Education and teach home based and distance learners. Our clientele come from diverse backgrounds including
- Students from remote cattle stations
- Students travelling overseas and throughout Australia
- Students who are home schooled by choice
- Medical enrolments
- Exclusions (students excluded from regular schools)
- Adult learners
In my role as a Distance Education teacher I am involved in using emerging technologies (Virtual Learning Environments and Web Conferencing) to deliver the curriculum to my students. I am also interested and committed to exploring the educational potential of digital tools and Web 2.0 applications and making them an integral part of my practice.
This subject is my third subject through USQ and contributes towards a Masters in Learning and Development, majoring in Online and Distributed Learning.
I'm looking forward to this course and learning about multi modal texts and new literacies.. I am hoping the course will be very relevant to my teaching situation as I believe we are all teachers of literacy, no matter what subject area we teach...it is all to do with literacy.
